What is the best type of coal to use at home?

I have a small Victorian fireplace. The chimney has been dormant for a couple of years. All I need is coal and possibly a chimney sweep. I have a bunch of suppliers in my neighbourhood, but I don't know what kind of coal is recommended or would be best for home use.
