Are DLPs over rated on the web, or are they as bad as the salespeople say?

We are looking for a new TV, and a lot of articles I have read on the web seem to indicate that DLPs are a pretty good value for their price. When I go to the stores however, the salespeople knock them something fierce. In fact most stores in my area don't even carry any as they say they have so many problems (bulb burnout and too many moving parts). So, anyone out there have experience with DLP tvs and got an opinion? The picture looks good in the store, but I don't want to buy a money trap...
